Tonbridge Angels 1-2 Whites: Full match report
TEN MAN Salisbury City produced another good comeback to record back-to-back wins and go top of the Blue Square South.
After falling behind to Frannie Collin’s finish on the 36th minute and then losing Stuart Sinclair to a straight red-card, City had a lot to do.
But a determined effort from Whites helped by new signing Jamie White, who fired home two well-taken finishes in the space of two minutes apart, rounded off a superb victory at the Longmead Stadium.
It was Tonbridge who had the better chances early on. Willem Puddy pulled-off a fine save to keep George Purcell at bay, and then Robbie Matthews was in the right place to clear the danger from Rory Hill’s effort.
Despite City’s efforts to keep the scoreline level, Collin ran his way through the middle and released a driven effort to put the hosts in front.
And nine minutes later City suffered another blow, this time they were reduced to ten men as Sinclair was dismissed for a late challenge on Hill.
Ryan Brett mishit a free-kick as time was ticking away but their luck changed on the 73rd minute.
Ugo Udoji surged his way down the wing and picked out Fitchett who outpaced the Tonbridge defence and teed up White in the area and he slotted home.
And the comeback was complete two minutes later, as White bagged his third goal in two games, after he darted away from four Tonbridge defenders and poked home the winner.
Boss Darrell Clarke was delighted with the performance.
“The boys were excellent and we thoroughly deserved the win,” he said.
“We have a few more leaders out there which is exactly what we need and the players showed great courage to come from behind.
“It’s good to win our first two matches but lets not get carried away. We just need to take each game as it comes.”
Clarke was also delighted with Jamie White’s performance and finishes.
“Jamie is looking fitter and sharper already.
“He has worked hard for us over the last six weeks and deserves his rewards.”
The Whites are next in action on Saturday at Truro City and then welcome Farnborough on bank-holiday Monday, both 3pm kick-offs.
