Match report: Whites vs Hampton & Richmond

The Whites travelled to Hampton & Richmond a few days after an outstanding win away at Chelmsford that saw them find the goal three times in the dying minutes of the match.

It was clear from kick-off that the team did not plan on sitting back for the last few matches of the season, Darrell Clarke & Mikey Harris undoubtedly wanting the strongest possible end to the season.

Chelmsford goal-scorers Charlie Griffin and  Marvin Williams started, while the late-scoring hero Abdulai Bell-Baggie was rested and started the game on the bench.

Hampton & Richmond were living dangerously near the bottom of the table, and despite the peril of their position it was the Whites who dominated the first-half with neat passing play. A few chances at either end were wasted, until Charlie Losasso fired in a low, powerful shot to put the Whites ahead after 39 minutes.

The added momentum from the goal saw the Whites score again just six minutes later, when defender Danny Webb volleyed the ball and lobbed the keeper, dropping the ball into the back of the net.

Only the Hampton & Richmond management and players know what went on in the half-time team talk, but it had a clear impact on the opposition as they launched themselves into the second half with more drive and determination than they had previously shown in the match so far.

Whites keeper Will Puddy made some excellent saves to deny clear chances for the opposition, and controlled his area confidently, but was unable to deny opposition defender Dean Inman in the 85th minute, leaving the final score 2 -1 to the Whites.

The result means two away wins in a row for the Whites, five goals in two matches, and a rise up the table to the lofty heights of 12th place – just 2 points behind rivals Eastleigh.

Saturday sees the Whites take on Sutton United at the Ray Mac, and the club would love to see as many supporters as possible come and support the team as they fight for the best possible finish to what has been an exciting and successful season.

The final match of the season for the Whites is away at Eastbourne Borough on the 28th of April.
