Match Preview – Hemel Hempstead

After a thrilling comeback to claim all three points in their last match, Salisbury City go into the game this Saturday top of the table on goals scored, following Chesham’s stalemate with Swindon midweek.

The Whites’ opponents, Hemel Hempstead, have made a strong start to the league and occupy fourth spot. Possessing an experienced side, the Tudors are yet to drop a point away from home this season.

Although happy with the strong character shown to fight back from 2-0 down at half time, Manager Darrell Clarke is keen to ensure lessons are learnt from what he considered a poor first half showing against Weymouth. “There were a few harsh words at the break, but I was delighted with the spirit the lads showed in turning it around. We need to be learning from our mistakes.”

The team were given a rest following Tuesday night’s victory, but were back training on Thursday and Clarke feels the squad are in positive mood, “We’ve been working hard in training and spoke about what we did wrong in the last game and where we needed to improve. We’re always reassessing but now it’s about looking forward to the next match.”

Ben Joyce and Kayne McLaggon are slight injury doubts, both picking up knocks in Tuesday’s game, with the latter withdrawn midway through the second half. With the hectic bank holiday schedule, Clarke’s taking it one game at a time, “With two games over three days it’ll be important to utilise the whole squad, but we’re focussing on Saturday’s match.”

Still undefeated, and with three wins from three at home, the league’s top scorers kick off at 3pm on Saturday at the Ray McEnhill Stadium.
