Football in the Community

Football in the Community offers an extensive programme of football coaching in primary, secondary and special schools throughout the Salisbury area, enabling children to practice and develop their skills in a fun environment.

At the outset, the Football in the Community programme was all about providing fun activities but they have since come a long way. With competitive sport disappearing from many schools, it created a shortage of specialist sports teachers and Football in the Community recognised they were ideally placed to help solve this difficulty by offering a high-quality sports programme.

The Salisbury City Community team offer access to the highest levels of coaching personnel and resources – plus years of experience in engaging children to participate and learn through sport and physical activity.

The object of the exercise is that by the end of that period, no child will be able to claim they did not have the opportunity to play football on a regular basis.

There is considerable added value to the programme, like training for teachers, volunteers and parents to create a sustainable environment when the Football in the Community team move on. Pathways are also being created to enable youngsters to join local sports clubs or to take part in Local Authority activities.

A talent identification system has been introduced and a monitored programme which links school sport to junior clubs. The best young players are not always available to turn out for their school team or representative school sides because they are attached to professional clubs but the system operated by Football in the Community allows for other talented players to start moving up the ladder.

Out-of-school activities could include setting up clubs geared for youngsters who would not normally attend afterschool football sessions like girls and those with disabilities. This programme also involves organising sessions on Saturdays and during holiday periods.

Football is not for every youngster, of course, but the Community team adapt games and practical activities so that all children have an exciting and fun sporting experience. If your School or Club, would like to be involved, please contact the Club.
