An excellent display, at the academy base at Sparsholt College in Winchester, allowed Salisbury to run out comfortable 5 – 0 winners and ascertain top spot in the league ahead of Conference Premier Bath City in 2nd place. Knowing that a win would see them attain the league title, City started the game energetically, a bombardment of early pressure was capitalised in the 40th minute when Malaki Gayle rounded the Goalkeeper and finished into an empty net to give City the lead.

The 2nd half was much the same story with Salisbury dominating the match. The 2nd goal came on 60 minutes when Harry Beckley’s corner was diverted goal wards by Ryan Gregory and Gayle bagged his second of the match, shortly after with a fine individual effort. With the match all but over, late goals from Chesney Onouha and Harry Beckley, wrapped up all three points in style and gave Salisbury City and Sparsholt College a much anticipated but well deserved victory to round off an outstanding season.

To date, City’s best SWCYL finish had been 3rd, the ascertainment of “top spot” in the league demonstrates the progress that the Academy has made since moving to Sparsholt in 2010. Football Academy Manger Neil Benson commented: “Our Academy programme has continued to make rapid progress. The depth and quality of the squad has been evident by our season performances. After narrowly missing out on a college league title and runners up in the cup as well as latter round disappointments in three other cup competitions the boys have shown their character by winning this league which is truly a fine achievement”.

“With the current intake taking shape for next season we have recruited well as word has spread of the opportunities at Sparsholt College and we look forward to building on our successes for next season”.

There are limited spaces remaining for the 2012/13 Football Academy Programme for both day and residential applicants. We have a further Open Day on Thursday 07 June – for more information or to arrange a trial opportunity, please contact neil.benson@sparsholt.ac.uk or on 07860150075.

The Whites are very pleased to announce that Stuart Sinclair has agreed a new deal that will keep him with the club next season.

Manager Darrell Clarke is pleased that another key player has committed to the club, saying “I’m delighted that we have got Stuart on board for next season.

“Since I brought Stuart in from Arlesey, his performances have been excellent – he’s been one of our most consistent players.

“I’ve played with his brother, as Whites fans will know, and there are definitely a lot of similarities between the two – but I think Stuart can actually become the better player. I look forward to working with him next season.”

Stuart himself is looking forward to next season:

“I’m really happy to have agreed my deal with Salisbury. I’ve had a few offers from other teams, but it has never been my intention to leave the Whites. I’m looking forward to continuing to work with the Gaffer.”

William Harrison-Allan, Chairman of Salisbury City FC was pleased with the news, saying “I’m delighted that Stuart is staying with us – it’s good news for the club and for the fans.”

The club are pleased to announce that goalkeeper Will Puddy has agreed a new deal to keep him with the Whites next season.

Manager Darrell Clarke feels having Puddy between the sticks will breed confidence in defence, saying “I’m delighted that Will Puddy has agreed his deal.

“He’s made a great impact, especially towards the end of last season – he’s established himself as a top keeper. In the 12 starts he made for us he was only on the losing side once.

“I’m looking forward to working with him next season.”

Darrell also explained that Luke Ruddick will be joining the Whites in pre-season on non-contract terms.

“Luke has had a lot of injury problems recently, with a previous heart virus and his on-going hamstring issues. He’s off to Holland in the summer to see a top hamstring specialist to get sorted out once and for all – and he’ll be looking to earn himself a new deal, similar to Callum Hart, in pre-season.”

The club would like to confirm that Marvin Williams has left the Whites and will be joining Eastleigh FC, after a season in which he helped the Whites to a top-ten finish.

Darrell Clarke, Manager, is sad to see Marvin leave but wishes him all the best for the future:

“I’m disappointed to be losing Marvin. When he joined us from Hemel Hempstead we helped get his career back on track, and he helped us with some great performances, but we understand that Eastleigh offered him a great deal – and that’s football.

“All of us at the club wish him all the best for the future, and thank him for his contributions while he was with the club.”

Darrell went on to talk about the club’s finances, and his aspirations for next season, saying “It’s important that we as a football club are doing things properly financially.

“Michael Cooper is working really hard with the youth & community. The reserve team is starting up next season, using players from the youth squad, trial players, and providing fitness for members of the first team who aren’t playing regularly.

“All of these are a vital part of the club’s future and will also help us financially. The Board have done a fantastic job of steadying the ship, and we’re looking to build on the work of the last few seasons and make sure we’re up there next season challenging for the top five.

“We have a fantastic Season Ticket offer at the moment, and it would be great if fans can take up the offer, helping us with the playing budget and the finances generally.

“We are lucky to have an incredible bunch of passionate, loyal fans, and we’re looking forward to rewarding them with some exciting football next season as we look to push right up the table and build on our top-ten finish this season.

“It’s going to be a busy summer for the Management, and we’ll keep our fans in the loop as much as we can. All squad developments will be on the official site so please keep checking for updates and news on what’s going on.”
