The Chairman and Directors were saddened to hear of the death of Mickey Harrold, a lifetime supporter of Salisbury City FC.

Mickey, a former Vice President, was passionate about the club, and he was a constant presence at matches.

Never shy about voicing an opinion, Mickey will be missed by club staff and fans alike. Many will remember his unceasing warmth, positive outlook and welcoming handshake. We are of course very pleased that he was able to see the club achieve promotion this season.

Naturally we would like to offer our sincere condolences to Mickey’s wife Mary, and his family and friends, from all at the club.

Darrell Clarke said he will be sorely missed by the club.

“He’d always be so enthusiastic before a match and would wish us all well, I’d always have a chat with him after about the game and he always had time for everyone.”

Mikey Harris echoed the sentiments of the manager.

“Micky was a great character and was always positive towards the team whatever the result, it’s very sad news for everyone associated with the club.”

The Salisbury City FC Supporters Club have arranged some events that are happening over the next few weeks – for more information, please read on.

End of Season Event

The 21st May will be the SCFC Supporters Club End of Season Event. It will start at 6pm and last to approximately 9pm. Whites manager Darrell has confirmed his attendance and will ensure that as many of the players will attend as possible – hopefully lots of supporters will come along to show their appreciation of Darrell and the team’s efforts this season.

The Supporters Club voted Player of the Season and Young Player of the Season (voting to soon open on the website) will be presented, together with an Outstanding Contribution Award (selected by the committee). The SCFC Players Player of the Year will also be presented. The prize draw for Jamie Turley and Chris Giles shirts will be made. The club hope to have a fantastic raffle/auction for football prizes (not only the Whites) as well as food and entertainment including live music.

This will be a free event for members, whilst non-members are welcome at the small cost of £3.

Further details to follow, please visit our website for updates: http://www.salisburycitysupporters.co.uk/headlines.html

If you are able to give help in organising this event or just helping sort things out, the Supporters Club would be delighted to hear from you.

Night at the Dogs

The Supporters Club have 100 tickets for Poole Greyhounds for Friday 20th May at the bargain price of £5. All money raised from ticket sales will go to the Supporters Club so this is a great fundraising opportunity.

£5 ticket includes entry and racecard. Entry is free for children (U18s) when accompanied by an adult.

Gates open at 6.30pm and first race starts at 7.30pm. Fully licensed bar, snack bar, free parking – together with thrilling and pulsating entertainment.

Come with friends, family or why not get a group together from work or your local pub for a fun night out, this is very much for Whites and non-Whites fans alike!

To further add to the excitement we will be pitched against five other organisations on the night for the Pool Stadium Club Champions Cup. Each organisation will be assigned a dog trap for the night and points according to the performance of the hounds racing out of that trap for six races. The position the dog finishes in each race translates to points on a league table (7 points for a win, 5 points for 2nd, 4 points for 3rd, 3 points for 4th, 2 points for 5th and a single point for last place). The team with the most points lifts the cup and receive a special commemorative trophy.

Join the club for the thrill of live greyhound racing by booking your places below; there is no need to book for under 18s.

If there is sufficient demand for transport then a coach will be organised, cost is likely to be approximately £7 per person. If you would like transport to be organised please let us know.

To buy a ticket, you can visit the Supporters Club website (http://www.salisburycitysupporters.com/greyhounds.html) or see one of the committee members.

Salisbury City Football Club has shown its support for the charity ‘Operation Hernia’ by donating several football shirts to the mission in Ghana.

Salisbury City Football Club has shown its support for the charity ‘Operation Hernia’ by donating several football shirts to the mission in Ghana.

Operation Hernia is a charity created to assist in the treatment of hernias in low and middle income countries. Hernias are a big problem in these places, not just because of the sheer amount of hard manual labour the people there face every day, but because of the lack of readily available medical facilities.

Cases that would be a routine day surgery in the U.K. are often left untreated for years.

Whites fan, Sarah Hasted, is a volunteer for the charity. Every year she travels to Northern Ghana to assist a small team of U.K. surgeons and nurses in performing as many operations as they can. The village Sarah travels to is a 10-hour bus journey north from the capital of Accra, where a very rudimentary hospital has been set up in a converted building at a local Christian Mission.

For this year’s trip, Sarah went to the mission with Salisbury City shirts for the local people who give up their time for the charity. “We are assisted in this task by a wonderful group of people who work at the mission, and who take time from their normal jobs to work with us as hospital porters, translators, or assist with laundry, cooking and lots of other jobs that help the project to be so successful.”

“It was to our group of translators/porters that I gave the shirts. They worked with us every day from early morning to late at night, looking after the patients before and after their surgery and we couldn’t do it without them. I cannot speak highly enough of them.”

Pictured in their new shirts, Sarah was hopeful she’d converted a few new fans! “I know they would probably have preferred Michael Essien Chelsea shirts, but I like to think Salisbury FC will have a special place in their hearts now – not least because I was glued to my mobile phone every Tuesday and Saturday – desperate to find out the Salisbury score!”

(From left to right: George, Matthew, Sarah, Richard, Emmanuel and Nelson)

Salisbury City Chief Executive Paul Fredericks was glad to see the shirts go to a good home. “It’s a very worthwhile cause and fantastic to see one of our own supporters dedicating themselves to something like this. Supporting charities is very important to us at this Football Club and we were only too happy to offer Sarah the shirts. It’s great to hear we’ve made some new fans!”

The Mission was a fantastic success this year. 160 people were operated on in 206 surgical procedures (some patients had two or even three hernias) over the two weeks.

Salisbury City FC are delighted to announce a new partnership with Tickets for Troops – a charity dedicated to offering free tickets to the country’s soldiers, sailors and airmen.

While the Club already grants concessions to all members of the Forces, they are keen to show support to this fantastic charity. Salisbury City will be donating ten free tickets for all remaining home fixtures, providing troops with an opportunity to enjoy watching their local team.

The deal represents Salisbury City FC’s backing for the country’s Army, Royal Navy and Royal Airforce and recognition of all that these men and women do.

Since the charity’s launch, it has provided over 200,000 tickets for events ranging from football and rugby matches to theatre and music shows. Patron Steven Gerrard MBE says “Young men and women are risking their lives every day and Tickets for Troops is a very simple way of respecting their courage and their sacrifices.”

The Club are proud to count a serviceman within their own ranks with Jason Silver, a young forward for the Whites, currently serving with the Armed Forces.

City’s Chief Executive, Paul Fredericks said: “We’re delighted to have formed this partnership. It’s important to say thank you and demonstrate our support to those serving our country. Tickets For Troops is a great way for us to do that. We are a community club and are always seeking links with local charities and organizations.”

The announcement follows the Whites recent participation in the Movember campaign for The Prostate Cancer Charity as well as the Club’s bid to develop links with local schools through halftime penalty shoot-outs.

Salisbury City are currently second in the Zamaretto Premier League. They are yet to be defeated at the Raymond McEnhill Stadium this season.

Salisbury City F.C. are supporting the fight against Prostate Cancer and will be holding a collection this Saturday at home to Didcot Town

Salisbury City F.C. are supporting the fight against Prostate Cancer.

Throughout November, players and staff at the football club have embraced ‘Movember’ – the campaign that challenges men to raise cancer awareness by growing a moustache.

Hosting Didcot Town this Saturday 4th December at the Ray Mac, the fully-furred Whites will sport Prostate Cancer Charity T-shirts in their pre-match warmup. Players such as captain Chris Giles, Brian Dutton, Charlie Knight and Adam Kelly have stuck it out to boast full moustches, while those too tempted by a shave have donated generously.

There’ll also be a collection for the charity at the match so fans can help to support this very worthwhile cause. Last year, more than 250, 000 people took part in the Movember challenge, raising £26 million for men’s health charities worldwide.

On Saturday, the club hopes to play its part in raising awareness of a cancer that kills one man every hour. Sporting a new moustache himself, the club’s Chief Executive, Paul Fredericks said, “We’re delighted to support the Movember campaign. It’s a fun way to recognise a very worthy cause and we hope the fans will help us in making a great contribution.” Click here to sponsor Paul

As well as sparing anything you can for the weekend’s collection, you can also sponsor the team online by clicking here. Thank you for supporting the boys and helping a fantastic charity.

The Prostate Cancer Charity fight prostate cancer on every front through research, support, information and campaigning. For more information visit www.prostate-cancer.org.uk

Football in the Community offers an extensive programme of football coaching in primary, secondary and special schools throughout the Salisbury area, enabling children to practice and develop their skills in a fun environment.

At the outset, the Football in the Community programme was all about providing fun activities but they have since come a long way. With competitive sport disappearing from many schools, it created a shortage of specialist sports teachers and Football in the Community recognised they were ideally placed to help solve this difficulty by offering a high-quality sports programme.

The Salisbury City Community team offer access to the highest levels of coaching personnel and resources – plus years of experience in engaging children to participate and learn through sport and physical activity.

The object of the exercise is that by the end of that period, no child will be able to claim they did not have the opportunity to play football on a regular basis.

There is considerable added value to the programme, like training for teachers, volunteers and parents to create a sustainable environment when the Football in the Community team move on. Pathways are also being created to enable youngsters to join local sports clubs or to take part in Local Authority activities.

A talent identification system has been introduced and a monitored programme which links school sport to junior clubs. The best young players are not always available to turn out for their school team or representative school sides because they are attached to professional clubs but the system operated by Football in the Community allows for other talented players to start moving up the ladder.

Out-of-school activities could include setting up clubs geared for youngsters who would not normally attend afterschool football sessions like girls and those with disabilities. This programme also involves organising sessions on Saturdays and during holiday periods.

Football is not for every youngster, of course, but the Community team adapt games and practical activities so that all children have an exciting and fun sporting experience. If your School or Club, would like to be involved, please contact the Club.
