Ex-Whites player Chris Todd will be making an appearance at the Ray Mac on Saturday to sign copies of his new book, “More than football in the blood”.

Chris was diagnosed with leukaemia in 2008, and managed to overcome it and enter remission. He joined the Whites on loan in order to regain match fitness, and after a successful stint at Torquay, had another spell at the Whites.

He has written and published a book by himself in order to raise awareness of the disease, and to make money for leukaemia and lymphoma research. The book is priced at £6.99.

The Whites take on Eastbourne Borough at the weekend, after a Tuesday evening bout against Basingstoke Town.

Introduction by Suzie Iles.

The ‘City Belles’ calendar has come about following my breast cancer diagnosis in February 2011. Beth Doyle and I were having a cup of tea and joking that we should do a WI style calendar but as Whites fans, it should have a football theme. Stuart Cannell offered to do the design work and the mad idea slowly became a reality…! Four other brave ladies agreed to reveal all for the cause and the City Belles were born!

I was very lucky, and thanks to the staff at the Pembroke Suite, the Breast Care Sisters, the surgeons at SDH and the radiotherapy team at Southampton General, I am now through my treatment and on the road to full recovery. The calendar is my way of putting something back whilst also raising money for the Whites and the Stars Appeal Pembroke Unit Fund. Please buy them for you, and your friends!

The launch of the calender will be on 15th September 2011 in the Sarum Suite, Raymond McEnhill Stadium at 7.30. Come along enjoy drinks and canapés find out more about it and buy your calender. It is hoped that Charlie Dimmock from BBC’s Ground Force will be a guest. Why not stay after for the now popular General Knowledge Quiz. Some of the Whites players have agreed to be topless waiters for the night, and will also be taking part in the Quiz!

——–

The Calendar will go on sale at £8-00, or £15-00 for two. You can either contact the club directly to order a calendar, or visit the Supporters’ Club website by clicking here.

The event will be followed by the regular Supporters’ Quiz night, and as the admission price of £6-00 non members, £5-00 Members, includes a hot meal, it will be necessary to book in advance via the Club on 01722 776655 in view of demand.

Our game against Hampton & Richmond Borough on Saturday takes place on a special day for non-league football, with the Football Association encouraging clubs to give supporters of Premiership and Championship sides the chance to see football at grass roots level.

Salisbury City FC are playing a full part, and are reducing prices as shown on the poster below for all supporters.

We hope to attract support from fans of Portsmouth and Southampton, as of course there is no league programme for them, and we also hope that our regular supporters will turn out in their numbers and make the occasion a great success.

Supporters can help efforts already made to publicise this day amongst our various media friends and word of mouth can be a very powerful means of doing so!

The club have arranged a Family Fun Day, to be held on Sunday 7th August, which promises to be a superb event that you will not want to miss.

There will be a host of great events and attractions throughout the day, and entry is free – we would love to see as many of you there as possible.

The attractions include a Juniors Mini-Football Festival, a Bouncy Castle, the launch of the new away kit for the Whites, a penalty shoot-out, and more. Perhaps one of the most tantalising features of the day, however, is the First Team versus Supporters football match.

First Team versus Supporters

If you ever fancied pitting your footballing skills against the might of the first team players, then this is your chance.

You will get to play alongside other Whites fans in a 50-minute football match, playing in the new away kit, which you will get to keep. For this reason, minimum bids of £60 are required.

There are 10 available playing positions, and also a vacancy for the supporters’ team manager.

We know that there will be many more people wanting to play then we have places available, so to make it as fair (and exciting) as possible, we will be holding an online auction to raise funds for the club.

You will be able to bid online until the 29th of July, after which the supporters with the highest bids will be allocated their chosen position. One defensive position has been reserved for the supporters’ club, but the rest are up for grabs!

Visit our online auction page and register an account to get started
www.salisburycity-fc.co.uk/auction

We recognise that some bidders may be unable to play themselves, but would want to pay for another person they nominate to play – this is not a problem.

When the auction closes, winning bidders can either make themselves known to the club office at the Ray Mac during the friendly against Hayes & Yeading on 30 July, or they will be contacted the following week to confirm their availability and arrange payment of their bid.

Happy bidding, and have fun!

Great support for An Audience With…..

Over four hundred football fans filled Salisbury Playhouse for Salisbury City Football Club’s fundraising event An Audience With. The highly entertaining evening was hosted by comedian Mike Osman whose jokes and impressions soon had the auditorium bursting with laughter.

The football guests started with Lawrie McMenemy and he was soon joined by Mathew Le Tissier. Later in the show the special guest Francis Benali was greeted with a rousing reception. The three Saints legends entertained the audience with football anecdotes and there was an opportunity to ask questions. Towards the end of the show the Salisbury City Football Club manager Darrel Clarke went on stage to answer a couple of questions from Mike Osman and receive a few words of wisdom from Lawrie McMenemey.

Salisbury City Football Club’s Chief Executive, Paul Fredericks, said:

“The response to an Audience with.. was really pleasing. We received positive feedback from those who came along and it was great to see so many people supporting the Club’s fundraising efforts. Everybody knows that the Whites have been through a difficult financial period and events like this will help us in our bid to bring stability to the Club.

I would like to thank everyone who donated prizes to the event, Warner Goodman for their sponsorship of the programme, the Salisbury Journal for promoting the evening and, of course, Salisbury Playhouse for helping with the organisation and hosting the show.”

The auction was for; two tickets to watch England play India at the Edgbaston Test; a membership and spa package at Parkwood Health and Fitness Centre; 2 nights at the 4 star Castleton Hotel, Swanage; an opportunity to coach Salisbury City in the Wilts Premier League fixture against Swindon Town; a visit to Mike Channon’s gallops and entry with lunch at Newbury Races; and a limited edition signed print of the 1966 World Cup Winners.

Auction and raffle prizes were donated by Parkwood Health and Fitness, The Castleton Hotel, Holiday Inn Amesbury, Milford Hall Hotel, The Silver Plough, Chris East, House of Sarunds, High Post Golf Club, Hox Brasserie, Warwickshire County Cricket Club, Highpoint Distribution, The Old Catle Harvester, Bookers, Salisbury Playhouse, Hook and Glove, Wadsworth Brewery and Hopback Brewery.

Two raffle prizes were left unclaimed at the end of the evening; beige no 8 and blue no 90, please contact Karen Carter on 01722 776655 or e-mail karen.carter@salisburycity-fc.co.uk to claim these prizes.

The Club will soon be announcing their next fundraising event, details will appear in the matchday programmes and on this site.

A brilliant Northern comedy set in the world of football and starring Wendi Peters – best known as Cilla Battersby in Coronation Street, and last in Salisbury as part of the Grumpy Old Women tour.

The play is set in 1913 in the Lancashire town of Blackton – Austin Witworth, the owner of Blackton Rovers is selling his star centre forward and local football hero Jack Metherell to a rival club on the eve of a crucial match that could see Rovers relegated to the 2nd Division. Will Jack follow Austin’s orders to throw the match? Or will he put his professional honour above loyalty to his old club? This hilarious comedy combines broad northern humour with the passion and pride of the beautiful game.

On Friday 8 October there is a fascinating curtain raiser at the Playhouse about football, then and now. Called 100 Years of Football – What’s Changed? it’s a chance to share stories with the cast and learn about what football was like ‘in the good old days’. Darrell Clarke, Salisbury City’s Football Manager will be joining them on stage to talk about the Salisbury City FC season so far. This event starts at 6.45pm and is free to ticket holders for that evening’s performance.

The Salisbury Journal has teamed up with the Playhouse and Salisbury City Football Club to offer a brilliant prize for a local football fan – one lucky winner will receive:

4 tickets to be VIP guests at Salisbury City’s home game against Oxford FC on Tuesday 5 October, including dinner, a signed photo of the team and a photo with the Man of the Match.

Plus 4 tickets to be VIP guests at the performance of The Game and the pre-show talk 100 Years of Football at Salisbury Playhouse on Friday 8 October, including drinks, programmes and a VIP reception with players from Salisbury City FC.

Details about how to enter this competition will be publicised in the Salisbury Journal in the next few weeks so make sure you keep an eye out for them!

Salisbury City FC’s Golf Club Day has been postponed due to the re-arrangement of the Tiverton Town game for that evening. The golf day will be re-arranged for the spring of 2011.

Golfers will be eased into the action from 12pm with a round of bacon sandwiches, tea and coffee, before the event tees off with a shotgun start at 1pm.

As well as enjoying a full 18 holes of golf, there’ll be on-course competitions throughout, such as the “beat the pro” driving competition.

After play, guests can reflect on their game (or choose to forget!) over dinner, followed by a presentation of awards, an auction and a raffle.

And the cost of the day? A very reasonable £200 plus vat per team of four players.

So come along and treat yourself to a fantastic day of golf!
